AUDITIONS: As You Wish (Coming February 2017)

Audition Announcement for Seattle Experimental Theater’s production of As You Wish

Seattle Experimental Theater will be holding auditions November 6, 2016 from 12pm to 4pm for its latest original improv show, As You Wish, an improvised parody inspired by The Princess Bride. The show is directed by Paul Levy.

PERFORMANCES:

February 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, and a special Valentine’s Day Performance February 14th at 8pm at the Theatre Off Jackson.

REHEARSALS:

Saturdays and Sundays January 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, & 28 in Seattle.
Tech dates are January 29, and two of the three days between January 30-February 1st.

COMPENSATION:

Improvisers will receive a $70 stipend ($10 a show) for participation in this production.

Auditions will be one day only, on November 6, from 12pm-4pm in Seattle. For an audition spot, please email Samantha.Hecker@seattleexperimentaltheater.com with your name, resume and headshot. Please plan to stay for the entire four hours. The time will be broken up into explanation of the show, auditions and callbacks.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

As You Wish is supported by a small cast of improvisers that are willing to take risks, play, and ultimately have fun together telling a love story. The cast requires improvisers that are light, playful, and comfortable breaking the rules and inviting the audience along the journey with them – the fourth wall is there to be broken. The As You Wish ensemble cast each has a main role, but will also be used to play supporting characters. Below are the main roles in the show and what is required for each of them.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

The Master of Dance (Male/Female)
Seeking revenge for something in the past this accented character is a master of dance and will stop at nothing to avenge the wrong doing of the past. Male or female role, this role requires someone passionate about improvising character accents and improvised dance styles.

The Best Rhymer (Male/Female)
This oddly shaped character won a prize in school for the best rhyming skills. To this day, the Best Rhymer continues to entertain large crowds no matter the style: musical, rap, Dr. Seuss, even Shakespearean verse. Male or female role, this role requires someone passionate about rhyming.

The Only Person Who Dies In The Show (Male/Female)
Master of nothing but full of great ideas, The Only Person Who Dies In The Show is very good at big dramatic deaths. Male or female role this role requires someone who is over dramatic.

The Girl (Female)
Full of heart, The Girl brings heart to the show. She is smart, charming, and wears her heart on a sleeve. This improviser must be comfortable falling in love on stage.

The Boy (Boy)
Full of heart, The Boy is excellent at many things but notably: dancing, rhyming, and loving. Male role, this role requires an improviser who is very comfortable dancing, rhyming, and falling in love.

The Torturer (Male/Female)
About as evil as it gets, The Torturer enjoys others misery. Male or female role, this role requires an improviser who is comfortably being a terrible person.

The Prince (Male)
The Prince is really good a wishing for things that are ridiculous. Focused primarily on himself, The Prince will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Male role, this role requires an improviser who is comfortable caring only about himself and his wants.

The Unemployed Miracle Worker (Male/Female)
Full of delight, energy, and charm The Unemployed Miracle Worker is great at singing and can make even the most depressing of situations come to life. Male or female role, this role requires an improviser who is full of charm, singing, and great at working an audience.

AUDITIONS: Time’s Arrow (October 2016)

SET is seeking improvisers 18 and older with a minimum of two years of improv experience to audition for the world premiere of Time’s Arrow, an original long form improvised show that will explore a space through different time periods. Scripted show experience is preferred, but not required. Performers of all ethnicities, gender, and body types are encouraged to audition.

About the Show:

The spaces around us are full of history and potential; haunted by ghosts and gilded by dreams. Halls and streets and fields are rich with meaning defined by wonderful, terrible, forgettable, and sublime individual and collective experiences, yet we exist in them for only one moment at a time. In “Time’s Arrow”, we will explore the layers of life piled in a single location that means something to a member of our audience.

The show is directed by Elizabeth Brammer and will perform at the Ballard Underground.

Performers for Time’s Arrow will be paid as a percentage of the show profits.

Rehearsal/Tech dates:
Rehearsals: Tuesdays 7-10pm, some Thursdays 7-10pm, and Saturdays (depending on cast availability) starting September 6th.

Seattle Experimental Theater is celebrating its 5th Anniversary Season in 2016. In addition to appearing at a wide variety of theater venues in the Seattle area, SET productions have also been featured at The Seattle Festival of Improv Theater, The Hawaii Festival of Improv Theater, Emerald City ComicCon, and GeekGirlCon.

AUDITIONS: Where No Man Has Gone Before

Seattle Experimental Theater will be holding auditions December 2nd from 7 – 9pm at Theatre Puget Sound (Seattle Center) for Where No Man Has Gone Before, an improvised parody of the original Star Trek series. Callbacks will be December 3rd from 7-9pm. An audition appointment is required; please see below for submission information.

SET is seeking improvisers with a minimum of two years of scripted or improv experience to join our troupe for our January show run at Theatre Off Jackson. Performers of all ages, ethnicities and body types are encouraged to audition. We will be casting a few named character parts, including the part of Khan, for the January run.

Knowledge of Star Trek is a plus, but not a requirement. Performers for Where No Man Has Gone Before are paid as a percentage of the show profits.

Where No Man Has Gone Before began in 2011. In addition to runs at various local venues, it has also been featured at The Seattle Festival of Improv Theater, The Hawaii Festival of Improv Theater, Emerald City Comi-con, Geek Girl Con, and many others.

Audition Notice: The Wolf and the Witch

Seattle Experimental Theater will be holding auditions for its latest original improvised show, The Wolf and The Witch on Sunday July 27th from 2-6pm. Callbacks will be held July 30th 7-10pm. Auditions will occur in the Seattle area; specific location will be shared after submission.

About the Show

The Wolf and The Witch will use audience interaction and fable/fairy-tale archetypes to create new fairy tales relevant to the audience.

SET is seeking to cast 6 improvisers for this production. Improv or scripted acting experience preferred. Performers of all ages, ethnicities and body types are encouraged to audition.

The show is created and directed by Tony Beeman (Artistic Associate at Unexpected Productions, Seattle Theatresports ensemble member, and the Doctor in Seattle Experimental Theater’s The Doctor).

Rehearsal and Performance Schedule

Performances will be held at the Ballard Underground: October 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th at 8pm, and October 12th at 2pm.

Tech Dates are:

September 28th Noon-6pm
September 30th 7-10pm
October 1st 7-10pm
October 2nd 7-10pm

Rehearsals will be most Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings, and Saturdays afternoons in September, with a few additional meetings scheduled in August between the director and individual cast members.

Performers, as all staff and production/design team members, will be paid as a percentage of the show profits.

Requesting an Audition Time

For an audition spot please email auditions@seattleexperimentaltheater.com with your name, resume and headshot. Please let us know when during the 2-6pm time you are available. Auditionees will be assigned a 30 minute slot. Auditions will consist of improv scenes in small groups. There is no need to prepare a monologue. Please wear clothes you can move in. If you are interested in the show but cannot make one of the audition times, please let us know.
