SEATTLE, WA – Join us for a SETember to remember.

Seattle Experimental Theater is proud to announce SETember 2015: a mini theater festival that showcases SET’s most popular productions at Theater Off Jackson in Seattle’s International District. SETember begins on Labor Day Weekend and runs through September 21st, 2015.

Since 2011, Seattle Experimental Theater has been bringing groundbreaking improvised theater to the Seattle area. Thousands of audience members over the years have smiled with us, laughed with us, and even cried with us. In addition to these numerous Seattle-area productions over the last 4 years, SET shows have been featured at events including Emerald City Comiccon, the Seattle Festival of Improv Theater, and the Hawaii Improv Festival. Now, for the first time, audiences can see multiple SET productions in the span of a single month at a fantastic venue.

In the evenings, SET will showcase their flagship, smash hit improvised sci-fi shows, Where No Man Has Gone Before and The Doctor. On Saturday afternoons, SET brings back last year’s original The Wolf and the Witch, a series of improvised fairy tales for kids and kids at heart of all ages. See your old favorite or discover a new favorite during SETember.

SETember is produced in association with Theatre Off Jackson.

  • Each submission will be reviewed by Seattle Experimental Theater staff.
  • We will contact you if your proposal is selected for further consideration.
  • The next step for selected proposals will be an interview in person or by phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When will the shows be produced? We are still finalizing our bookings for 2016, and expect that some of our choices will be influenced by the results of this search. However, SET has traditionally produced shows in January, May, and September/October, with occasional shows at other points within the year.
  2. Where will the shows be produced? One of the benefits of being an independent theatre company is that we have the flexibility to pursue the right venues for each production. While our 2016 schedule is not finalized, our most successful venues have included Theatre Off Jackson, the Ballard Underground, the Jewel Box Theatre, and occasionally the Pocket Theatre.
  3. Are directors or writers compensated?SET believes strongly in compensating artists for their work, and to that end each show compensates participants with a percentage of profits, with the percentage varying depending on each show’s number of participants and other factors.

About Seattle Experimental Theater

SET will celebrate the fourth anniversary of our debut production in June 2015. SET has been producing hit improvised plays since their inception, with a broad repetoire including “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, “The Doctor”, “The Wolf and the Witch”, “Wedding Horror Stories”, and “The Journal”. Their shows have appeared at myriad venues in Seattle, including Theatre Off Jackson, The Ballard Underground, The Jewel Box, Eclectic Theater, Redmond Acts Out! and the Emerald City ComicCon. SET has also hosted staged readings including “Two Gentleman of Lebowski” and continues to seek groundbreaking ideas, both improvised and scripted, for future development.

Sarah Shay opens for “Where No Man” on Jan 9

We’re pleased to announce that Sarah Shay, who entertained audiences of “The Doctor” last year, will be opening for the Friday, January 9th performance of “Where No Man Has Gone Before”. Sarah Shay is a writer, musician, and girl-about-town from Seattle who plays ukulele songs that are usually nerdy but sometimes sad. Due to an arm injury, she will be joined by her brother and bandmate Aaron J. Shay for a special duo performance!

This special musical treat will only occur prior to the January 9th show, but tickets to all 4 performances are available at Brown Paper Tickets for $15 – click here for tickets.

“Where No Man Has Gone Before” returns this week

We can’t contain our excitement about the upcoming performances of “Where No Man Has Gone Before”! Not only is this a world premiere episode format, but we’re adding new cast members, new characters, and new costumes to the mix! (You might even see the infamous wrap shirt…)

Tickets are selling quickly for this short run – only four performances.
